Introducing the Masters

05 Oct 2018

Prague International Chess Festival is organised by the Nový Bor Chess Club in cooperation with the AVE-KONTAKT agency. The four-start hotel Don Giovanni Prague will host an event open for chess players of all generations and skill level. We will see the world's elite players in the main event, round-robin Masters tournament. The 10-player starting field will be composed of players from world's TOP 50. Czech patriots can look forward to seeing Czech #1 David Navara and Czech #2 Viktor Láznička in action.

"We've already signed contracts with all of the 10 players, however we'd like to keep at least some of them a little secret," says the tournament director Petr Boleslav. "Whom should we introduce first? Our invitation was accepted by the Indian grandmaster Harikrishna Pentala and the current Polish number one Jan-Krzysztof Duda."

The Challengers tournament will be played as a 9-round closed event as well. Four players from Czech Republic will be facing the tough opposition of world chess stars. 16-year old Van Nguyen, who became the youngest Czech grandmaster in 2017, the third player of Czech rating list Jan Krejčí, experienced national team member Jiří Štoček and fresh blood in Czech national team Peter Michalík.
