Dramatic endgames, inventive moves. Fans vote for the best games of the round on the Decision 21 platform

04 Mar 2024

With the help of the D21 method, chess fans vote for their favorite game at the Prague International Chess Festival for the second year in a row.

Encounters of individual rounds are awarded. These are always announced at the beginning of the game day, when the player receives the glass trophy from the Kolektiv company. The festival is using online voting on the Decision 21 platform for the second year in a row. In previous years, the best duels were decided by the competition committee. Voting is available in Czech and English. On the platform, every chess fan can choose three favorite games of the day and one that was weaker. The games of the Masters and Challengers categories are evaluated, voting does not yet apply to Futures.
At the end of the entire festival, the best game from the complete nine days will be announced. It will be decided by members of a special commitee: last year's Futures ambassador Péter Lékó, editor-in-chief of New in Chess magazine Dirk Jan ten Geuzendam and tournament director Petr Boleslav. The prize for the winner is named after the legendary Czech chess player Lubomír Kaválek, who himself visited the prestigious tournament in the past.

Decision 21 is an online platform for citizen participation that facilitates and simplifies group decision-making. The basic premise of the D21 method is that each voter always has more votes available than there are winning options. All votes have equal weight and the voter may or may not use them. In order to grant a minus vote, it is necessary to give at least two plus votes. The author of the algorithm is Czech mathematician and partner of the festival Karel Janeček.
