Talented Youth or the Future is gold
The Futures tournament, which is a part of the 5th Prague International Chess Festival, welcomes the best players in its history this year. The Don Giovanni Hotel is going to host six young, yet chess-experienced players led by 12-year-old Polish talent Patryk Cieslak.
The strength of this year’s Futures category is proved by the fact that the average rating of the players is 2192 ELO. Matches between these young players are very attractive for visitors as they are already of great quality, and at the same time fierce and enthusiastic. The front-runner is the aforementioned Patryk Cieslak. Three gold medals at the European Under-12 Championships in classical chess, four medals at the Polish and European Junior Championships in rapid and blitz chess, and a jump of 225 ELO in four months confirmed his undeniable talent last year.

His strongest competitors are Peter Balint from Austria, who’s going to show his chess art in this category for the third time, and Cieslak’s compatriot Kamil Warchol, who won the Futures tournament last year.
The hosting country, Czechia, is going to be represented by an 11-year-old prodigy Jiří Bouška, who won the title of the world champion in rapid chess in the U-8 category four years ago, side by side with Karel Brožka and Daniel Juhaňák.
The Futures tournament ambassador is Péter Lékó from Hungary, and the support is ensured by Petr Pisk, the manager of the young Czech national team. The champion will win the right to attend the Open tournament in 2024.
The best chess tournament in Czechia will take place from June 21 to 30 at the four-star Hotel Don Giovanni in Prague, with the opening ceremony scheduled for June 20, as well as the draw for all categories. Participation is free of charge for all visitors.
"Thanks to our partners, Czech Inn Hotels, Komerční banka, and Ernst & Young, we can invite the stars of the chess world to our tournament," says tournament director Petr Boleslav.
