Chess Will be Played Literally in Every Tempo
Two tournaments, the rapid and the blitz tournament, have been added to the program of the second annual of the Prague International Chess Festival taking place in the four-star hotel Don Giovanni from the 11th to the 22nd of February 2020.
Last year, about two hundred chess players have taken part in more than half a dozen classical tournaments. The organizers expect even more players next year and are currently experiencing higher demand for one-day tournaments. The newly added rapid tournament, taking place on Thursday the 13th of February, a day before the Open tournament will start, could serve as a warm-up pre-round.
"We would also like to include the players that, for whatever reason, don’t have the entire week to play but come to the festival as visitors and only have time for one faster tournament," explains festival director Petr Boleslav. Those who prefer an even faster tempo will be indulged in the morning of Wednesday the 19th of February when the blitz tournament will kick off. The non-chess side events will be more varied than last year and will be prepared in detail by the organizers the following month.
The complete schedule and rules of the chess festival have been published on the official website before the beginning of August. If you haven’t chosen the right tournament yet, feel free to read up on it in the "Tournament" section. Also, you can use our new online sign-up sheet to register for the tournament. "There’s plenty of time, of course. The deadline is on the 14th of January 2020 but every good chess player should plan well ahead," warns Petr Boleslav. The capacity will be higher this year, of course, but not even a hotel as big as the Don Giovanni is limitless.
