(Inter)Play
...is a dance performance inspired by the game of chess and its many associations—politics, open play versus calculated schemes and intrigue, entertainment, and the relentless defense of positions. The performance unfolds in three parts: Setting Boundaries, Fight, and Reconciliation.
The original music, composed exclusively for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Prague International Chess Festival 2025, is the work of acclaimed Czech performer, singer, five-string viola player, and composer Gabriela Vermelho. Directed and choreographed by Alena Pešková—renowned for over twenty full-length ballets and numerous shorter choreographies for exhibitions, festivals, and special events—the performance features dancers Emma Haisová and František Vlček. Lighting design is crafted by Albert Bartošek.
